Turfgrass Graduate Student Receives Travel Award

Doctoral student Matt Jeffries of the NCSU Turfgrass Program has been selected as a recipient of the 2015 Chris Stiegler Turfgrass Science Student Travel Award. Jeffries is completing his Ph.D. studies in crop science, pesticide environmental fate, under Dr. Travis Gannon and Dr. Fred Yelverton. He will receive the award next month at the Division C-5 Turfgrass Science Business Meeting in Minneapolis, where top turfgrass scholars in the nation will be honored.

Jeffries received his master’s degree in crop science, weed science, in 2012 and bachelor’s degree in turfgrass science in 2009, both from NC State. His doctoral dissertation topic is, “Off-Target Pesticide Displacement and Fate in Turfgrass, Riparian and Aquatic Systems.”
