NC State Engineering Online, the College of Engineering’s graduate distance education program, has again been recognized as being among the top such programs by new rankings released by U.S. News and World Report for 2023.

U.S. News ranked NC State 11th in its 2023 Best Online Engineering Programs list. NC State routinely ranks at or near the top 10 nationally on the list.

In rankings of engineering specialties in distance ed, NC State was ranked sixth in civil engineering, seventh in industrial engineering and 11th in both electrical and mechanical engineering.

In other categories, NC State was ranked ninth in the list of Best Online Master’s in Information Technology Programs and 15th in the list of Best Online Engineering Programs for Veterans.

Engineering Online offers master’s degrees and professional certificates. The program is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and is authorized in every U.S. state for delivery of online degree programs.

Engineering Online offers 18 different graduate engineering degree programs that are the same high-quality engineering and computer science degree programs offered on campus, but with the flexibility of online learning to help meet students’ educational and professional goals.

Linda Krute, director of Engineering Online, said that the program’s recognition comes from the quality of its faculty and teaching, outstanding customer service and years of experience. The program was established in 1978, with recordings of lectures delivered through the mail.

Most classes are taught by tenured or tenure-track College of Engineering faculty members who are passionate about distance learning and have a lot of experience with it. Krute said that the College is offering 110 graduate courses through distance education this semester alone.

“We’re proud to join the other universities that are listed in the top rankings,” Krute said. “NC State always strives to provide a top-quality experience for our distance education students.”

The U.S. News rankings look at metrics including faculty credentials and training, services and technologies made available to students, student excellence and how engaged faculty members are.
