Yasmine Cuestas: ‘Everyone Deserves to Learn, to Grow, and to Prosper’

Yasmin Cuestas

When Yasmine Cuestas decided to pursue her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling online through the NC State College of Education, she never expected the community she would find within her cohort.

Now, along with her fellow students, Cuestas is looking forward to being able to make a positive impact on the mental health of others.

What are your research interests?

I love to research articles concerning children’s mental health in general, children’s resilience and experiences concerning early childhood trauma and how it affects them into their adulthood.

What is the most meaningful moment you have had so far as a College of Education student?

The most meaningful part about being in the College of Education is the level of genuine friendship and appreciation of my cohort. Through all of the courses we have taken through NC State, we have communicated on an academic and social level that is beyond what I predicted I would have, being that we are an at-distance track. We share our interests, discuss current events, meet with one another, and share our happy and sad moments. When NC State says we are a Pack family, this cohort really means it.

What has been your favorite experience as a College of Education student so far?

My favorite experience is getting to be in small groups with one another and understanding all the perspectives that are shared, and later applying them to my own life and those around me.

Why do you still want to be an educator?

My future hopefully leads to being a mental health counselor, but I will always continue to learn and teach others when the time allows because knowledge is limitless and priceless. It is the key to our success in every aspect of our lives. Everyone deserves to learn, to grow, and to prosper and providing these avenues is a way I would love to allow others to blossom into the people who can change the world.

What do you love about the College of Education?

The College of Education is so unique, in the sense that there are so many tracks, yet we all share so much in common. We get to take aspects and information from others and integrate it within our own lives and careers. The College of Education is a gift that never ends, just like our hunger to learn.
