Cleshay Breece: ‘I Want to Inspire, Collaborate and Reach’

Cleshay Breece

After nine years serving as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve and eight years as a science teacher in Cumberland County, Cleshay Breece chose to earn her Master of School Administration at the College of Education in order to better serve students and teachers as a school leader.

Get to know Cleshay:

Hometown: Fayetteville, North Carolina

Degree: Master of School Administration

Hobbies and Interests: Singing at my church on the praise team, exercising with my sister, blogging and vlogging about Biblical content, traveling around the world, and spending quality time with family and friends.

My Educational Background: I received my undergraduate degree in biology from North Carolina A&T State University. Later, I decided to pursue my Master of Arts in Teaching from Fayetteville State University.

My Professional Background: I have dedicated nine years to serving as a member of the United States Air Force Reserve. In addition, I have spent eight years as a science teacher within the Cumberland County school district, actively contributing to the education of my community.

Why I Chose NC State’s College of Education:  During a pivotal conversation with an alumnus of NC State, they shared how thoroughly NC State prepares its education students, emphasizing the rigorous training that ensures you are ready for any challenges you may face. The alumnus described the development and transformation that NC State fosters in its students, which resonated with my desire for personal growth. At that moment, I knew NC State was the right choice for me.

Why I Chose to Pursue a Master of School Administration: It wasn’t until my prior school assistant principal spoke about seeing leadership qualities in me that I realized I had potential. He was the first person to say and see more in me. The second was my area superintendent of school support, who reinforced everything my assistant principal said. I hope not only to meet but also to exceed their expectations when I graduate with my master’s in school administration.

Why I Chose Education: Whether the growth is in a child or an adult, I love knowing I can contribute to the betterment of an individual. Whether it is improvement in how they perceive themselves or understanding a scientific phenomenon, education provides all the tools necessary to inspire and have a positive impact that lasts beyond a lifetime. I chose education because I want to inspire, collaborate and reach!
