Small College Makes Big Impact at NC State’s 3MT Competition

Despite its small student population, the Wilson College of Textiles left a sizeable impression at NC State Graduate School’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition.

The competition, founded by the University of Queensland and held by universities across the globe, challenges graduate students to present and explain their research in three minutes or less. More than 60 master’s and doctoral students from across NC State submitted videos of their presentations to a committee that ultimately chose 10 finalists to compete.

In the most recent competition, Prateeti Ugale (Ph.D. Fiber and Polymer Science) won the competition’s “People’s Choice” award. The honor, which is decided by the audience, comes with a $500 prize. Her presentation, “From Textiles to TECHxtiles,” describes her ongoing research within Assistant Professor Amanda Mills’ SHIFT Research Group.

Sara Hood (Ph.D. Textile Technology Management) was also named one of the 2024 finalists for her presentation “Can We Afford to Shop Sustainably? Can We Afford Not To?”
