Former Ph.D. student Sanja Lutzeyer is among the co-authors of a paper showing that most people are unwilling to rent vacation homes that have a view of offshore wind turbines -- and those who are willing expect steep rental discounts unless turbines are more than eight miles offshore.

The Science of Chocolate is the Work of this Graduate Alumnus

Ray Schnell, cacao plant science director at Mars Inc., works with other scientists to promote better cacao farming methods and continue to develop hardier plants for the farmers who depend on them for survival. Schnell, 63, earned his master’s degree in 1979 and doctorate in 1984 from NC State’s Department of Crop Science, where he also worked as a research technician between getting his degrees.
