The Science of Chocolate is the Work of this Graduate Alumnus

Ray Schnell, cacao plant science director at Mars Inc., works with other scientists to promote better cacao farming methods and continue to develop hardier plants for the farmers who depend on them for survival. Schnell, 63, earned his master’s degree in 1979 and doctorate in 1984 from NC State’s Department of Crop Science, where he also worked as a research technician between getting his degrees.
