On Dec. 19, more than 1,500 graduate degrees will be awarded at NC State University’s fall commencement exercises. These include nearly 1,200 master’s degrees and 367 doctoral degrees.

Lydia Villa-Komaroff's research helped make the production of insulin more efficient. She’s also led a small biotech company through a billion-plus dollar acquisition, served as chief executive and chief science officer of a start-up company and helped to establish an organization committed to increasing diversity in STEM.
