University Graduate Fellowships
University Graduate Fellowships are one-year awards that provide competitive recruiting supplements for outstanding new doctoral students. Fellowships are funded by a combination of funds from the Office of the Provost and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Prospective students cannot apply directly for these fellowships, but are nominated by their respective graduate programs.
Each doctoral program has been allocated three $4,000 Fellowships to be used to help in recruiting efforts.
The $4,000 supplement must be used to recruit a new doctoral student who will enroll beginning in the upcoming academic year. These awards must be used a supplement to a standard departmental/program Teaching Assistantship, Research Assistantship, or Fellowship/Traineeship.
The supplemented stipend must be in an amount equal to or greater than the average level of support for other teaching assistanships, research assistantships, or fellowships/traineeships in the graduate program. Students cannot apply directly for these fellowships, but are nominated by their prospective graduate programs. Only doctoral programs are eligible. These fellowships do not cover tuition, tuition remission, fees, or health insurance. Tuition and health insurance associated with departmental awards will be covered in accordance with Graduate Student Support Plan guidelines.
The Directors of Graduate Programs will be asked to submit nominations to the Graduate School. Every effort will be made to notify departments of decisions within 24 hours of receipt of nominations.
