Oral Exam Scheduling

Students must have an approved committee and completed degree audit before they initiate the exam scheduling process:

  • Master’s students:
    • A completed degree audit means all coursework is completed or in-progress. If there are red X’s on the degree audit, the student either isn’t ready for the final exam or they need exceptions approved to complete the requirements. The Graduate School will not approve the exam request if there are red X’s on the student’s degree audit.
  • Doctoral students:
    • Preliminary exam: A completed degree audit means all coursework is completed, in-progress, or planned. When a student is getting ready to schedule their preliminary exam, it is likely that they will have red X’s on their degree audit; they will need to use their Planner to add future courses that will meet all of the degree requirements. The Graduate School will not approve a preliminary exam if there are red X’s on the student’s degree audit.
    • Final exam: All coursework must be completed or in-progress.

When the degree audit is complete and the committee is approved, a “Schedule Exam” button will appear on the student’s Committee page in MyPack as seen in the screenshot below. Once they have worked with their committee to determine the date and time of their exam, they must click that button to initiate the scheduling process. The DGP and GSC will receive email stating that the student requested to schedule their exam. At that point, please work with the student to submit an exam request form to your Graduate School Liaison. It is the department’s responsibility to verify that the degree audit has all the necessary moves completed prior to sending the exam request form to the Graduate School.
