Training Opportunities

New DGPs and GSCs may use the checklist below to get started in their role and find contact information for training.

New DGP/GSC Checklist

  • If you have not already done so, follow the Accessing Systems instructions to get the access you need
  • Use the “Add to Google Calendar” link on our Academic Calendar page to automatically add important dates and deadlines to your Google calendar
  • If applicable to your program(s), sign up for the Graduate School HR/GSSP listserv
    • Note: You will automatically be added to the Graduate School’s general DGP/GSC listserv when your system access is approved
  • Meet with Bailey Southard (brsoutha@ncsu.edu) for Slate (admissions) training
  • Meet with your Graduate School Liaison for SIS (student records) training
  • If you will be entering graduate student appointments (i.e. RA/TA), contact Richard Corley (gradschool-assistantships@ncsu.edu) for training
    • Note: Requests for HR-related services and NextGen support should be sent through this Graduate Inquiry Form
  • If students in your program(s) are eligible for the Graduate Student Support Plan (GSSP), contact Dare Cook (gradschool-gssp@ncsu.edu) for training
    • Note: A GSSP refresher training is also held once per semester
  • Review the various tools and guides on the DGP & GSC Resources page and the Funding Resources for Faculty and Staff page
    • Note: The Campus Contacts page will help you learn about some of the offices and resources available to you and your students
  • Attend the DGP/GSC workshops held every August/September
  • Read the “DGP/GSC Update” emails that are sent from the Graduate School at the beginning of each month
    • Important deadlines and updates for that month are shared in each newsletter
  • Attend DGP/GSC Town Halls during the academic year
    • These meetings are hosted by the Graduate School Dean via Zoom; the Dean provides information and updates regarding graduate education at NC State and includes guest speakers from other offices on campus

  • The Knowledge Base may be used to find information and ask questions about various Graduate School policies and procedures from admission through graduation
  • Grad HR Now is the service portal for NC State personnel to access knowledge articles related to graduate assistants–including the NextGen system–and to request assistance from the Graduate School regarding any topic related to GAs and the NextGen system
