Graduate Stipend Estimated Payments
The Graduate Assistants at NC State are paid on a biweekly basis. GA's have the option to enroll for payroll deduction to pay student fees over six pay periods. The Graduate School has developed a tool for GA's to estimate the amount of payment they can expect to receive per pay period if they enroll in payroll deduction for student fees and/or engineering fees. The GA Stipend payment calculated by the tool is an estimate only and does not include any tax withholdings or other deductions. Please note that the first and last paychecks for the semester are typically prorated amounts and students will receive less than the biweekly amount listed on their terms and conditions contract.
The GA Terms and Conditions letter includes the bi-weekly stipend amount. Please follow below steps to estimate the bi-weekly payment net of student fees:
- For the Semesters, select the “Fall 20XX” or “Spring 20XX” semester option from the drop down menu
- Selection of the Fall or Spring term will automatically populate the default dates for the respective semester
- Fall 2023: 8/16/2023 – 12/31/2023; Spring 2024: 1/1/2024 – 5/15/2024
- The checkboxes to include “student fee” and “engineering fee” payroll deduction will appear as options only when you select the Fall or Spring for the Semester drop down option.
- Payroll deduction option is available on a semester basis only and if you select “Academic Year” or “Annual Year”, the tool does not give the Payroll deduction checkbox option and displays the biweekly amount per payperiod and the total stipend at the bottom of the chart.
- Selection of the Fall or Spring term will automatically populate the default dates for the respective semester
- Enter the biweekly stipend from your GA Terms and Conditions Offer letter.
- Based on the information entered above, the GA stipend calculator will display the biweekly stipend, student fee deduction, and/or engineering fee deduction and net stipend for each pay period except the first and last pay period. There are 10 business days in a biweekly period. The biweekly stipend for the first and last pay periods are prorated as the start and end dates for the GA contract fall in the middle of the pay period and typically are less than 10 working days.
