Steve and Jane Warren-Wolfpack Club Graduate Fellowship

Program Summary

The Warren-Wolfpack Club Graduate Fellowship is a prestigious one-year award offered to top entering graduate students who played a varsity sport either at NC State or at another college or university.

The fellowship is funded by an endowment established by Steve and Jane Warren and the NC State University Wolfpack Club. During his years at NC State, Steve Warren co-captained the 1967 Liberty Bowl Championship football team and was a consensus Academic All-American as well as a National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athlete.

Evaluation and Selection

Students may not apply directly for this fellowship. Instead, they must be nominated by their prospective Directors of Graduate Programs or Department Heads, who submit nominations to the Graduate School.

Selections are made by a committee appointed by the Graduate School with the addition of a representative from the Wolfpack Club. Students will be selected based on academic record, athletic achievement, character and leadership.

Please note that nominees must be deemed eligible to receive this award according to NCAA rules. The Graduate School will contact the Director of Compliance in the NC State University Athletics Department to confirm the nominee’s eligibility. If the nominee is deemed ineligible, we will inform the nominator and will remove the nomination from consideration.

It is important to include information regarding your department’s plans to provide your nominee with a TA, RA or Fellowship in addition to this award. Such additional funding may have an impact on whether or not your nominee would be allowed to accept this award and still be in compliance with NCAA regulations.

Stipend and Fellowship Tenure

Each fellowship will be in an amount of up to $4,000. Awards are for one academic year only.

Application Deadline

The Directors of Graduate Programs and Department Heads will be asked to submit nominations to Dr. David Shafer in the Graduate School. The Graduate School will announce the exact deadline in the call for nominations.
