Ward Supplemental Fellowship

Program Summary

Funded through an endowment provided to NC State by Randall L. and Susan P. Ward, the Ward Fellowship is awarded to NC State’s most outstanding entering doctoral students.

Eligibility Requirements

The Ward Fellowship is awarded to entering doctoral students in any field of study. Students admitted to master’s programs leading to the doctorate are also eligible. Eligibility is limited to US citizens.

The award recipients must also receive support in the form of a fellowship, research assistantship, or teaching assistantship from their graduate programs during the year of the fellowship.

Evaluation and Selection

Students may not apply directly for this fellowship. Instead, one nomination from each graduate program is submitted to the Graduate School from the Director of Graduate Programs (DGP).

Each completed nomination form must be accompanied by (1) a letter of nomination from the DGP, (2) two letters of recommendation (these can be from the Graduate School application), (3) a statement of purpose from the student (this can be from the Graduate School application), and (4) a copy of the nominee’s transcript.

Selections are made by a committee of faculty appointed by the Graduate School and are based on undergraduate/graduate GPA, standardized test scores, and letters of recommendation.

Stipend and Fellowship Tenure

The annual stipend is $3,000 per academic year. The awards are for one academic year only and are not renewable.

Application Deadline

The Directors of Graduate Programs will be asked to submit nominations to the Graduate School.
